How can I design and build my network?

A growing business needs a safe and sustainable electrical distribution network that can grow with it. The low carbon economy adds to the demands on that network: electric vehicles and embedded generation and storage, for example, require tailored solutions to support them. Technology is developing fast, with innovations transforming the opportunities for increased efficiency every day.

How we can help

We have many years of in-house technical experience planning networks for medium to large scale electrical infrastructure owners and integrating systems. Our experienced designers apply industry best practices and integrate the latest in emerging technologies to identify how your network can be optimised as it expands. This means it can support resilient and reliable future load growth, so you can meet your sustainability goals and your business objectives.

Working closely with our clients, we make sure we understand your requirements from day one and deliver them in a cost and time effective manner. Often, that will mean providing a full end-to-end solution. This includes an assessment of the optimal technology mix, network planning and all stages of design, from feasibility to outline design and on to detailed design, through to building, testing and commissioning.

Our experts are:

  • Accredited Contractors Engineering Managers (CEMs) and Contractors Responsible Engineers (CREs) for railway projects (Network Rail and London Underground).
  • National Electricity Registration Scheme (NERS) accredited to provide design as an independent connection provider for contestable works.
  • Experienced in producing designs in both 2D and 3D to a BIM Level 2 standard.

Network modelling and planning

Electrical network modelling and planning is the simulation and analysis of a power distribution network using specialist power system modelling software tools.

Such studies may be started from either a blank page to create a new network model or built on to a model of an existing network. Once a model is created, a number of simulations can be run to check the network or propose for expansion. These include:

  • Capacity of the network
  • Electrical characteristics, such as fault levels and power quality levels
  • The resilience or reliability of the network.

This will provide you with a preliminary understanding of the present-day and future state of your network, ensuring the resilience of the network and your path to net zero is future-proofed.

What This Means Icon

What this means for you

As your business grows, your electrical infrastructure needs to grow with you. Technology is finding new ways of expanding the capacity and efficiency of electrical infrastructure. The low carbon economy and new electricity distribution models are changing the shape of electricity networks. Electric vehicles, renewable energy sources and new ways of storing energy are all part of this revolution.

Our engineers are experienced in identifying clients’ needs and delivering tailored solutions that utilise the latest technologies to meet them. We will design your electrical infrastructure to maximise service life and reduce the whole life cost of your network by ensuring your assets are optimally maintained.

The solutions that we identify and deliver are future-proofed to handle the demand for increased capacity for years to come. Our designs are scalable, and capable of handling future growth. At the same time, they increase the resilience, cost efficiency and sustainability of your network. We also make sure that your distribution network can interface with other electrical networks (such as a distribution network operator) and other operational assets. The result is better operational, commercial and environmental performance.
